Starmor recently completed a security window film installation in Kennedale, TX, reinforcing school glass with an affordable, effective first layer of protection. Security film strengthens existing windows, delays intruders, and reduces hazards during break-ins or active threats without replacing glass.

Strengthening School Safety with a Smart First Layer of Protection

When we were asked to assist a school in Kennedale, TX to reinforce and protect the windows installed as part of a new project.

Mandated by the Texas Education Agency to protect students and staff, this is the exact scenario where security window film proves its value. Forced Entry Resistant Film is used in Texas schools to reinforce key areas of the campuses with a cost-effective, highly practical upgrade that helps slow down intruders, reduce hazards, and increase overall safety.

Kennedale Schools and the Texas Security Window Film Mandate

The Texas TEA has mandated entry-resistant film on ground floor windows and glass doors. Glass breaks quickly — often with one or two impacts — which creates instant access for intruders and leaves students and staff exposed during critical moments.
Security window film changes that.

By strengthening existing glass, properly anchored film systems help:

  • Delay forced entry, buying minutes instead of seconds
  • Keep shattered glass intact, reducing dangerous debris
  • Provide added protection during break-ins or active threats
  • Increase safety without altering the appearance of the building
  • Deliver campus-wide improvements at a fraction of the cost of new glazing

For Kennedale’s school administrators, this was exactly the type of scalable, budget-responsible solution they needed both the meet the mandate and to protect students and staff.

What Starmor Installed on the Kennedale Campus

During the installation, we reinforced vulnerable glass using the 3M S140 14 mil security window film. The 14mil thick S140 meets the UL972 Burglary Resistance Standard, which should be the minimum requirement for forced entry resistant films. Areas where security films are most often deployed include:

  • Main entry doors
  • Front office sidelites
  • Ground-floor classroom windows
  • High-traffic interior areas where glass failure poses injury risk

We used a properly anchored safety/security film system, ensuring the film bonds to both the glass and the frame — a critical step for real forced-entry performance.

The result: stronger windows, slower break-ins, and a safer environment for students and staff.

A Smart First Step Before Costly Upgrades

One major reason schools choose security film is simple:
It delivers effective, real protection without the high costs of ballistic glazing or forced entry resistant glass replacement.

Security window film is:

  • Affordable enough for district-wide deployment
  • Fast to install without major disruption
  • Versatile for classroom, hallway, office, and entry applications
  • A meaningful improvement that addresses real-world threat scenarios

For the Kennedale campus, this project protected a new upgrade, and it lays the groundwork for future upgrades if the district chooses to harden additional areas.

Where Stronger Protection May Be Needed: Riot Glass® Hard Points

While window film dramatically improves safety, some openings require stronger reinforcement. This is especially important for areas that are more likely to be attacked.

High-risk areas like:

  • Main entrances
  • Reception vestibules
  • Admin office sidelights
  • Classrooms Doors and other Shelter-in-place rooms

Starmor recommends stepping up to Riot Glass®, a forced-entry-resistant system that provides a rigid, attack-absorbing barrier designed to withstand prolonged assault.

Film protects the perimeter.
Riot Glass® hardens the choke points.

Both options align perfectly with a layered school security strategy.

Art did a great job. Fast, professional. On time. Well done. I asked for a leave out of the film on the bottom of the windows for my cat to look out and it was well done, no problem. I recommend.
